The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) is primarily tasked with providing shareholder oversight to a range of Public Enterprises under its portfolio. This mandate is principally guided by the Public Enterprises (PE) Act 2019, approved by Parliament.
The Department was guided by the PE Act 1996, before PE Act 2019 came into effect in July 2019.
Moreover, the PE Act establishes the department as catalyst to ensure that PE’s are properly managed for the purpose of better performance, transparency and accountability to improve efficiency and competitiveness of the economy, to foster and accelerate the macro-economic activity.
The Department has three (3) distinct unit:
- Monitoring Unit;
- Divestment Unit; and
- Policy and Research Unit.
